How to Create Screen-Time Schedules for Homework and Bedtime

By Bill Turner - The WiFi Dad 2026-04-25

Short answer: Create separate schedules for homework, bedtime, school nights, and weekends. Then apply them at both the router and device level when possible.

Why this matters

Screen rules work better when they run automatically. If every night becomes a negotiation, the system isn't doing enough work for you.

What to do first

  1. Choose the homework window.
  2. Choose the bedtime cutoff.
  3. Apply schedules to child devices.
  4. Use app limits for problem apps.
  5. Review exceptions for schoolwork or family communication.
